What Is Deadstock Fabric? (And Why We Love Using It)
When you hear the term deadstock fabric, it might sound a little strange… but it’s actually one of our favourite ways to create beautiful, limited-edition dresses.
At Cara & The Sky, we’re always looking for ways to create pieces that not only make you feel amazing, but are kinder to the planet too. That’s why our latest woven dresses feature carefully sourced deadstock fabrics, giving incredible textiles a second chance rather than letting them go to waste.
So… what is deadstock fabric?
Deadstock fabric is leftover fabric from fashion mills or manufacturers that would otherwise never be used.
Sometimes a brand orders too much fabric. Sometimes colours are discontinued or collections change. Rather than sending those beautiful fabrics to landfill, they’re sold on in limited quantities for independent brands like us to transform into something special.
Because once it’s gone… it’s gone.
It’s one of the reasons our dresses are produced in such small numbers, making each one feel even more unique.
Which Cara & The Sky dresses use deadstock fabrics?
Ruby combines two beautiful deadstock fabrics.
The soft checked cotton body is made from deadstock fabric, while the statement broderie anglaise collar is also created using deadstock material, making every Ruby dress a little rescue story in itself.
The result is a dress full of texture, charm and personality that you simply won’t find on the high street.
Our blue Maisie is made using two different deadstock fabrics.
The soft denim-look cotton used for the main body has been rescued from becoming waste, while the beautiful floral fabric featured throughout the dress is also deadstock, creating a truly one-of-a-kind combination.
It’s effortless, timeless and designed to be worn for years to come.
Our pink Maisie features our gorgeous floral deadstock fabric, adding beautiful colour and character while helping give unused fabric a brand new life.
It’s feminine, easy to wear and another example of how slow fashion can still feel joyful, colourful and exciting.
Why we choose deadstock
Using deadstock fabric means we’re able to create beautiful dresses while helping reduce textile waste.
It also means our collections stay genuinely limited. Once we’ve used every metre of that fabric, we can’t simply order more, making each piece feel even more special.
Combined with our small-batch production, it’s all part of creating clothing that’s designed to be loved, worn and kept for years rather than just one season.
At Cara & The Sky, we believe fashion should feel good in every sense. Beautiful clothes, thoughtfully made, using incredible fabrics that deserve a second chance.
And we think that’s something worth celebrating. 💖
